Why I Started Black Spruce
I started Black Spruce Roofing because I saw how Anchorage homeowners were being treated — or rather, not treated. Contractors who wouldn't call back. Crews who didn't clean up. Prices that changed after the job started. I watched neighbors post on local forums asking if anyone had had luck getting a roofer to just show up when they said they would. That shouldn't be hard.
I've been working in the Alaska trades for 5 years. I know Anchorage neighborhoods — the Hillside, Huffman, South Anchorage, Eagle River — and I know what a roof here has to handle. Freeze-thaw cycles, ice dams, heavy snow loads, the wet shoulder seasons that catch poorly installed flashing and let moisture get underneath. Alaska isn't a forgiving climate for shortcuts.
Before starting Black Spruce, I spent 3+ years running Alaska Heat Cable — Anchorage's heat cable installation and ice dam removal specialists. That work gave me something most roofers don't have: I've watched ice dams form, penetrate flashings, and find every gap in a poorly installed roof — from the outside in. Every Black Spruce installation is spec'd with that knowledge built in.
So this company exists to be the roofer I'd want working on my own home. We send you photos throughout the job. We sweep for nails with a magnet before we leave — every time, no exceptions. We show up at 8 AM because that's when we said we would. And the number we quote is the number on the invoice. Period.

30+ Five-Star Google Reviews
Our founder built Alaska Heat Cable into a 30+ five-star rated Anchorage business — heat cable installation and ice dam removal — with zero negative reviews. That same standard of work, communication, and cleanup is what Black Spruce Roofing is built on.
The Name
What “Black Spruce” Means
Black spruce is one of Alaska's most resilient native trees — it grows in permafrost, survives subarctic winters, and stays rooted through decades of extreme freeze-thaw cycling. It thrives where other trees can't. We chose the name because it's what a properly built roof should be: adapted to Alaska conditions, built to last, and still standing long after a bad winter has passed. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.
What We Stand For
Four Things We Don't Compromise On
Communication First
The most common complaint in Anchorage roofing is simple: roofers don't call back. We answer the phone, respond to texts, and if we miss your call, we call you back the same day. You will never wonder where we are or what's happening with your project.
No Surprises on Price
Every quote is line-itemized. If something changes during the job, you hear about it before we do it — not after. The price you agreed to is the price you pay. No add-ons at the end, no hidden material charges.
Spotless Cleanup
Magnetic nail sweep, debris removal, driveway protection. We leave your property cleaner than we found it. Except for the new roof, you'd never know we were there.
Treated Like Family
We don't subcontract. The crew you meet is the crew that does the work. Every crew member has passed a background check. We work on Anchorage homes — our neighbors live here. We care about getting it right, not just getting it done.

Where We Work
Rooted in Southcentral Alaska
We serve Anchorage, Eagle River, and Girdwood — the communities we live in and know. Anchorage neighborhoods we work in regularly include the Hillside, Huffman, South Anchorage, Sand Lake, Turnagain, Muldoon, and Abbott Road areas. Eagle River is part of our regular rotation. And we're one of the few Anchorage roofing companies that services Girdwood — where snowfall is twice what Anchorage gets and the roofing needs are unlike anywhere else in the state.
